Maple Leaf Foods is putting Yves Veggie Cuisine back on refrigerated shelves across Canada, relaunching six of the plant-based brand's highest-demand SKUs after pulling the line from retail distribution. The move responds to what the Mississauga-based protein CPG says was a sustained wave of consumer pressure — a signal that brand loyalty had outlasted the brand's retail presence.

The six returning SKUs span the refrigerated meat-alternative set: Yves Original Veggie Ground Round, Yves Original Veggie Ground Round (4-Pack), Yves Mexican Veggie Ground Round, Yves Veggie Ham, Yves Veggie Bologna, and Yves Veggie Turkey. The assortment targets everyday meal occasions and fits squarely within the convenience-driven plant-based segment that anchors the refrigerated deli and meat-alternative planogram at major grocery banners.

The Retail Rollout

Products have already begun scanning at grocery stores across Canada, with additional retail partners phasing into distribution over the coming weeks. Maple Leaf Foods has not specified door count or ACV targets publicly, but a national rollout with multiple banner partners suggests the relaunch is structured for broad mainstream grocery coverage rather than a limited natural/specialty channel test. The 4-pack SKU of Veggie Ground Round signals the company is also eyeing multi-pack velocity as a driver — a format that tends to perform well in club-adjacent or family-shopping missions.

"Yves is one of those rare brands that people didn't just buy — they built routines, recipes and traditions around it," said Adam Grogan, President & Chief Operating Officer of Maple Leaf Foods. "Bringing Yves back is about honouring 40 years of trust, protecting what people have always loved about the products, and giving this iconic Canadian brand an exciting next chapter."

Category Context

The relaunch arrives at a complicated moment for the plant-based category. After a surge in trial during 2020–2021, refrigerated meat alternatives have faced declining velocities and planogram resets at many North American grocery chains, with several national brands losing TDP (total distribution points) as retailers rationalized shelf space. Against that backdrop, Maple Leaf's decision to restore Yves rather than exit the segment entirely reflects a bet on heritage brand equity over novelty — a differentiated strategy from the new-item launches that have characterized much of the category's recent competitive activity.

For grocery retailers evaluating the plant-based set, Yves' return offers a familiar, established name with a 40-year track record in Canada — a meaningful contrast to the brand-building costs associated with emerging entrants. Whether the relaunch can recapture pre-discontinuation scan data velocities will be the key metric retailers watch as the line resets into the refrigerated case this fall.
