Leadership Change at Frozen Bakery Supplier

Vandemoortele USA has appointed Curt Coolidge as General Manager, effective immediately. Coolidge succeeds Thierry Schmitz, who is transitioning to a leadership role at Vandemoortele's Belgium headquarters.

Coolidge brings over 20 years of in-store bakery experience, most recently serving in a general manager capacity at Sara Lee Frozen Bakery LLC. He has held leadership positions at both private equity-backed and strategic bakery platforms.

Focus on Scale and Innovation

In his new role, Coolidge will oversee Vandemoortele USA's North American commercial strategy, growth initiatives, and operations. His priorities include accelerating U.S. expansion through acquisition management, scaling the BakeUp product line, and growing core categories Lanterna® and Patisserie Du Chef® premium desserts.

"I am honored to step into the role of General Manager at such an exciting point for Vandemoortele USA," said Coolidge. "The team has established Vandemoortele as a trusted partner for premium frozen bakery goods in North America. I look forward to working closely with our partners and manufacturing facilities to bring even more innovation and value to our customers."

Vandemoortele USA, headquartered in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, supplies frozen bakery products to foodservice, retail, and convenience store channels. The company operates manufacturing facilities across 12 European countries and distributes to more than 95 nations.

Outgoing Leader's Legacy

Smitz departs after overseeing key milestones, including the company's acquisition of a majority stake in New Jersey-based Banneton Bakery and expansion of Vandemoortele's commercial presence.

"Leading the U.S. business has been an incredibly rewarding chapter," said Schmitz. "I am immensely proud of what our team has achieved together. I know the division is in exceptional hands with Curt, and I look forward to supporting Vandemoortele's global growth in my new role in Belgium."

Why It Matters

The appointment signals Vandemoortele's commitment to aggressive North American expansion in the frozen bakery category, a competitive segment where supply-chain expertise and portfolio diversification are critical. Coolidge's background in both private equity and strategic platforms suggests the company may pursue additional acquisition opportunities while scaling existing brands.
