Certified-organic ready-to-eat brand Urban Remedy is expanding its retail presence with three new or newly nationalized functional food and beverage SKUs, using National Food Is Medicine Day (September 14) as a commercial milestone to mark the launches. The products are now available or rolling into distribution across more than 800 retail doors nationwide — a footprint that spans Whole Foods Market, Andronico's, Raley's, Ralphs, King Soopers, and Erewhon, as well as the Whole Foods Market storefront on Amazon.
The New SKUs
The three items entering or deepening distribution represent distinct functional benefit platforms. The UR Calmer Wellness Shot is a new-to-market entry combining 80 mg of magnesium bisglycinate and 50 mg of L-theanine in an organic cold-pressed citrus base of blood orange, orange, pineapple, and lemon — targeting the fast-growing stress-and-sleep segment of the functional beverage aisle. The Blissful Belly Bowl, previously a West Coast exclusive, is now available on the East Coast; the refrigerated ready-to-eat meal centers on kale, quinoa, chickpeas, vegan cashew cheese, miso dressing, golden sauerkraut, and red beet-and-cabbage kraut, positioning directly in the probiotic-forward gut-health trend that has driven significant velocity gains in the refrigerated meal kit and prepared-foods sets. The Matcha Energy Bar — already an established California SKU — is launching nationwide this fall, delivering 9 g of protein, 3 g of fiber, and 6 g of sugar in a Paleo-compliant, plant-based format.
Retail and Channel Strategy
Urban Remedy's channel mix reflects deliberate positioning across natural/specialty and conventional grocery. Its cold-pressed juices and wellness shots hold shelf space at Ralphs and King Soopers — both Kroger banner doors — giving the brand meaningful conventional-channel ACV beyond the natural channel strongholds of Whole Foods and Erewhon. Protein Collagen Shakes are exclusive to Erewhon, while the broader prepared-foods and snack assortment anchors its 40-plus-SKU grab-and-go kiosk program in-store. That kiosk model — essentially a branded cold case shop-within-a-shop — differentiates Urban Remedy from flat-shelf competitors and supports higher turn rates by keeping product visible and shoppable as a destination set.
Neka Pasquale, Founder and Chief Product Officer, framed the national push as consumer-demand-driven: "Our goal is to make nutritious everyday wellness more accessible through delicious foods and beverages nationally. We are especially excited to take products to national distribution as it's a direct request we've had from our consumers."
Category Context
The launches land at a moment when functional and better-for-you prepared foods are among the fastest-growing segments in the refrigerated perimeter. The functional beverage category — particularly wellness shots and adaptogen-forward formats — has seen sustained velocity gains at both natural and conventional retailers, with magnesium- and L-theanine-fortified products benefiting from elevated consumer awareness around sleep and stress management. Meanwhile, the refrigerated meals and snacks set is under pressure from private label, making brand equity and clean-label differentiation increasingly important to justify shelf placement and resist slotting fee headwinds.
As a certified B Corporation, Urban Remedy also carries a values-based narrative that plays well with category managers at retailers prioritizing sustainability scorecards. With the brand now active in Kroger-banner doors alongside Whole Foods and independent natural chains, the current distribution arc suggests the team is building toward broader mass-channel conversations — a logical next step if velocities at conventional accounts validate the national roll.
