Celebrity-Backed Soda Brand Goes National
Stiller's Soda, co-founded by actor Ben Stiller and beverage entrepreneur Alex Doman, is expanding beyond its Northeast stronghold with a nationwide rollout at Target stores. The move marks a significant scaling milestone for the brand, which previously operated in select New York-area retailers and through Whole Foods, Walmart, and Amazon.
The Shirley Cola Play
The brand's flagship product, Shirley Cola, is leading the expansion. The soda contains 30 calories, 7 grams of sugar, and 33mg of caffeine, with added vitamins B12, C, and D. Stiller's current lineup also includes Root Beer, Lemon Lime, and Shirley Temple flavors.
Product Positioning
Stiller's emphasizes formulation transparency in a crowded better-for-you soda category. The brand uses real cane sugar and all-natural ingredients while avoiding artificial sweeteners and what the company describes as "weird stuff." The positioning taps into nostalgia for classic sodas while addressing modern health-conscious consumers.
"This is 'classic soda, made right'" with no prebiotics or bitter aftertaste, according to the brand's messaging.
Distribution Snapshot
In the Northeast, Stiller's remains available at Stew Leonard's, Walmart, Whole Foods, and select local retailers. The Target expansion provides coast-to-coast access, complementing existing Amazon distribution.
Why It Matters
The beverage category continues to see celebrity-backed brands gain traction, particularly in the better-for-you segment. Stiller's Target placement signals mainstream retail confidence in the brand's appeal, though it faces competition from established players and newer entrants in the low-sugar soda space.
