The Target Footprint
Wandering Bear Coffee has secured full-chain distribution at Target, placing four 8oz ready-to-drink cans — Organic Original Black, Double Latte, Vanilla Latte, and Mocha Latte — into the RTD coffee set at all Target stores nationwide, priced at $3.99 per unit. The mass-channel rollout builds on a June soft launch of three 32oz multi-serve cartons (Organic Original Black, Espresso Roast, and Double Latte) in approximately 300 Target doors across the Midwest and Northeast, priced at $9.99 per carton in the refrigerated set. Taken together, the two-format strategy positions Wandering Bear across both the single-serve impulse occasion and the at-home multi-day consumption occasion — a dual-door play that broadens shelf real estate and TDP simultaneously.
The 8oz latte SKUs are differentiated on a protein-forward platform: each delivers 11 grams of protein via an ultra-filtered milk protein base, with half the sugar of the leading canned latte competitors, according to the brand. That nutritional profile aligns directly with Target's publicly stated "food-forward" merchandising initiative, which has added thousands of new food and beverage items in 2026 with a declared emphasis on wellness, protein, and trending flavors. For a retailer working to convert grocery into a primary trip driver rather than a convenience add-on, bringing a super-premium organic cold brew brand with functional latte credentials into the RTD set is a meaningful planogram decision.
Retail Momentum and Channel Mix
The Target launch is the most significant distribution event of a breakout year for Wandering Bear across conventional and natural channels. In the first half of 2026, the brand expanded into Kroger's Fred Meyer division in April, added Albertsons banner placement at Pavilions in March and Jewel-Osco in August, executed a nationwide rollout at Sprouts Farmers Market in July, and completed high-performing seasonal rotations across four major Costco regions — a club-channel presence that signals strong velocity and turn rates at scale. The Sprouts placement is particularly notable given the natural/specialty channel's role as a velocity proving ground for better-for-you RTD coffee brands ahead of broader conventional distribution.
The Target expansion also follows Wandering Bear's exclusive high-protein latte launch at Whole Foods last fall, establishing a credential in the natural channel before the brand moved aggressively into mass. That sequencing — natural first, then mass — is a well-worn playbook for premium CPG entrants, and Wandering Bear appears to be executing it with discipline. "There's such exciting momentum behind Target's merchandising strategy right now," said Ben Gordon, President and co-founder, "and we are beyond thrilled to play a role in that by bringing accessible wellness to the Target guest with super premium cold brew and better-for-you lattes."
Category Stakes
The RTD coffee category remains one of the most competitive sets in the refrigerated beverage aisle, with established players defending share through aggressive TPR activity and private-label pressure growing at select banners. Wandering Bear's bet is that a protein-plus-premium cold brew positioning can command $3.99 at shelf without heavy promotional spend — a velocity thesis that will be tested quickly at a full-chain mass retailer with the scan-data visibility Target provides. The multi-serve 32oz carton play also targets the premium private-label threat in the at-home cold brew segment, where own-brand offerings have expanded sharply at several conventional chains.
Founded in 2014 by Matt Bachmann and Ben Gordon, the brand pioneered the cold brew carton format and has scaled from a New York City startup into a national organic cold brew supplier serving retail, foodservice, and office channels. The Target and Jewel-Osco placements arriving simultaneously in August suggest the brand is managing co-ordinated sell-in across multiple conventional grocery banners — a distribution velocity that will generate meaningful syndicated data within the next two scan periods.
