The Hire

The Vitamin Shoppe has appointed Kimberley Gardiner as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Growth Officer, effective immediately, signaling a deliberate push to tighten the specialty retailer's omnichannel story ahead of its 50th anniversary in 2027. Gardiner reports directly to CEO Sharon Leite and joins an executive bench navigating a wellness supplement market that Circana data consistently ranks among the fastest-turning categories in specialty retail.

Gardiner arrives from Tractor Supply Company, where as SVP and CMO she oversaw brand strategy across more than 2,400 doors—a footprint roughly four times the size of The Vitamin Shoppe's current 640-store network. Her most commercially significant accomplishment there: scaling the Neighbor's Club loyalty program to more than 40 million members, a milestone that speaks directly to the CRM and personalization mandate she is inheriting in Secaucus.

Portfolio and Channel Scope

In her new role, Gardiner will own brand strategy and creative, performance marketing, e-commerce, CRM and personalization, loyalty, and corporate communications. The breadth of that remit underscores how seriously The Vitamin Shoppe is treating the integration of its brick-and-mortar and digital channels. With vitamins, minerals, and supplements (VMS) facing intensifying competition from mass and club-channel SKU proliferation—as well as direct-to-consumer brands eroding loyalty at the margin—the ability to activate scan data and first-party customer signals into personalized in-store and digital experiences is increasingly a competitive differentiator.

Gardiner will also collaborate with the merchandising organization and brand partners on product storytelling and trend-driven assortment activation, a function that touches planogram strategy and in-store display execution for both national brands and The Vitamin Shoppe's seven proprietary labels, including BodyTech, plnt, and True Athlete. Private-label penetration in the VMS segment continues to grow across channels, and a tighter link between marketing and merchandising could accelerate velocity on those own-brand SKUs.

What the Appointment Signals

Leite framed the hire explicitly around the 50th anniversary horizon: "As The Vitamin Shoppe prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, we have an opportunity to build on decades of customer trust and loyalty while reimagining how we engage with the modern wellness consumer." That kind of milestone is a well-worn but effective catalyst for brand repositioning campaigns and retailer co-marketing programs—the sort of activity that drives incremental TDP and end-cap placement with key vendor partners.

Gardiner's background spans automotive OEM brand-building at Volkswagen, Mitsubishi, Kia, and Toyota—categories where high-consideration purchase journeys and multi-touch CRM pipelines are table stakes. Those skills translate meaningfully to specialty retail, where the path from supplement discovery to repeat purchase involves editorial content, loyalty mechanics, and health-coach touchpoints that most mass-channel operators cannot replicate. Her addition to the health and wellness retail leadership conversation arrives as the sports nutrition and supplement category continues to attract new shopper cohorts, particularly Gen Z consumers entering the VMS aisle for the first time.
