Treasure Cave, the U.S.'s original cave-aged blue cheese brand, has secured distribution across Tops Friendly Markets' 152-store footprint spanning New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. The expansion marks the brand's continued push into Northeast groceries and pairs with a sponsorship of the National Buffalo Wing Festival on August 29-30. Six Treasure Cave products are now available across Tops locations: two varieties of 5-ounce crumbled blue cheese (original and naturally smoked), a naturally smoked blue cheese wedge, and three dip-and-spread varieties (original, caramelized onion, and hot honey). Products are shelved in both the dairy and deli sections. A limited-edition 5-ounce crumbled blue cheese with Buffalo Bills packaging will arrive in November. Tops is offering buy-one-get-one-free pricing on all Treasure Cave blue cheese dips and spreads through August 27 to mark the festival collaboration. At the festival itself, Treasure Cave will operate a branded booth and host a wing sauce competition for influencers, with the winning recipe earning exclusive merchandise. Six participating restaurants will feature Treasure Cave cheese in specialty menu items throughout the event. "Blue cheese and buffalo wings have always gone hand in hand, so expanding our presence at Tops and participating in the National Buffalo Wing Festival are meaningful milestones," said Samina Kirchen, Treasure Cave brand manager. "We're excited to be part of the traditions and celebrations that bring buffalo food lovers together." Treasure Cave has been making cave-aged cheese since 1935, when caves in Faribault, Minnesota, were converted into a production facility. The brand now operates from a facility in Almena, Wisconsin. Customers can find products at select Tops locations and online at TopsMarkets.com.

Why It Matters

For operators and retailers in the Northeast, this expansion signals continued consolidation of shelf space around specialty cheese varieties tied to regional food culture—in this case, buffalo wings. The festival activation and limited-edition packaging demonstrate how heritage cheese brands are leveraging local events and sports nostalgia to drive trial and repeat purchase in competitive dairy aisles.
