Distribution losses and category-level softness in pet food and value ready-to-eat cereal dragged Post Holdings to a 1.8% decline in third-quarter net sales, landing at $1.95 billion for the period ended June 30, 2026—down $36.3 million from $1.98 billion in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin compressed 90 basis points to 29.1%, while operating profit fell 19.3% to $189.3 million, pressured by higher SG&A and the lapping of avian influenza–driven pricing that had inflated both Foodservice and Refrigerated Retail results in Q3 fiscal 2025. Adjusted EBITDA came in at $377.3 million, a 5.0% year-over-year decline.
Consumer Brands Pressure
Post Consumer Brands—the company's largest segment by revenue, spanning branded and private label RTE cereal, granola, pet food, and nut butters—posted net sales of $974.2 million in the quarter, up 6.6% nominally thanks to $141.8 million contributed by the 8th Avenue Food & Provisions acquisition completed July 1, 2025. Strip out that M&A contribution and the organic picture turns sharply negative: volumes fell 7.1%, with pet food down 7.8% on distribution losses and category declines, and cereal and granola off 5.5% on category softness, value cereal distribution losses, and pack-size changes. The velocity erosion in value cereal is particularly notable given the continued trading-down dynamics visible in syndicated scan data across the grocery channel. Segment Adjusted EBITDA reached $197.3 million, up 11.2%, as 8th Avenue's scale helped offset the volume headwinds—a reminder that TDP expansion through acquisition can mask organic turn-rate deterioration on the planogram. The company completed the sale of 8th Avenue's pasta business in December 2025, exiting a lower-margin adjacency.
Foodservice and Retail Segments
The Foodservice segment—primarily egg and potato products supplied to the foodservice and food-and-beverage industry supply chain—reported net sales of $652.9 million, down 6.5%, as favorable avian influenza pricing from the prior-year period rolled off. Volumes actually rose 4.3%, driven by improved customer service levels and stronger production of protein-based shakes, signaling underlying demand health even as the top line normalizes. Segment Adjusted EBITDA declined 11.4% to $140.8 million. Management noted the Foodservice segment is running approximately $60 million above its normalized $500 million annual run-rate Adjusted EBITDA, a comparability item that buyers of FY2027 guidance should weight carefully.
In the Refrigerated Retail segment—side dishes, eggs, and sausage products sold in the retail grocery channel—net sales fell 21.1% to $184.5 million, with the divestitures of the Crystal Farms Dairy Business (completed May 1, 2026) and the lapping of avian influenza demand accounting for the bulk of the decline. Excluding Crystal Farms in both periods, volumes dropped 4.9%, with egg down 9.1% and sausage off 12.2%—categories where post-AI-outbreak demand normalization is compressing velocities across the refrigerated case. The Weetabix segment, Post's U.K. RTE cereal business, was essentially flat at $137.1 million in net sales, with a modest foreign currency tailwind of approximately 40 basis points offset by a 3.8% volume decline driven by private label product softness.
Outlook and Capital Allocation
Management tightened its fiscal year 2026 Adjusted EBITDA guidance range to $1,560–$1,570 million from the prior $1,550–$1,580 million band. Stripping out roughly $60 million in above-normalized Foodservice earnings and approximately $20 million from divested businesses, the implied comparable run-rate entering fiscal 2027 is approximately $1.48 billion—and management's preliminary view is that FY2027 Adjusted EBITDA will be broadly flat to that level as Foodservice growth, pricing actions, and productivity initiatives offset inflation and continued grocery retail volume softness in key center-store categories. Capital expenditures for FY2026 are guided to $370–$390 million, including $80–$90 million tied to cage-free egg facility expansion and the completion of the Norwalk, Iowa precooked egg facility. Post repurchased 9.1 million shares for $908.8 million through the first nine months of fiscal 2026 at an average price of $100.34 per share, leaving $490.7 million under its repurchase authorization as of August 5, 2026. Net leverage under the company's credit agreement stood at 4.6x as of June 30, 2026.
