Hormel Foods' Planters brand is seeding grocery shelves with two limited-time flavored nut SKUs and an expanded premium line for fall 2026, targeting the seasonal snacking window across grocery, mass, club, and e-commerce channels. The collection spans Kroger, select Albertsons and Safeway banners, Publix, and Ahold banners, with rollout beginning mid-August and running through September.

The two headline SKUs are Maple Brown Sugar Almonds (15.25 oz.), a new addition to the seasonal lineup, and Apple Cider Donut Cashews (13 oz.), a returning limited-time offer that earned repeat placement based on prior-season performance. Both items are live on Amazon and arriving in-store at participating grocery banners starting in mid-August. The kettle-roasted cashew variety leans on apple and cinnamon flavor notes; the almond SKU targets fall entertaining occasions with a sweet, crunchy profile. Limited-time flavors at the premium end of the nut set have become a reliable traffic and basket-size driver for snack aisles, and Planters' multi-banner retail footprint gives these items broad ACV out of the gate.

Special Reserve Expansion

Also new this season: a 34-oz. club-size format of Planters Special Reserve Peanuts, debuting exclusively on Sam's Club e-commerce in early October in limited quantity. The product is sourced from a single Virginia grower and produced via small-batch roasting and hand-salting — a craft-positioning play increasingly common in the premium snack tier as brands attempt to trade shoppers up from commodity nut sets. The 13-oz. Special Reserve, now in its third consecutive year, returns on Amazon beginning August 18. "Planters Special Reserve continues to redefine expectations for what a peanut can be, delivering a premium experience that has resonated with consumers year after year," said Gillian Lozak, associate brand manager of the Planters brand.

Category & Retail Dynamics

The move reflects a well-worn but effective seasonal merchandising playbook in the nut and snack category: introduce limited-time flavors timed to high-index consumption periods — fall and holiday — to generate incremental velocity without cannibalizing the core everyday set. For category managers, LTO nut SKUs have historically delivered strong turns in the first six to eight weeks on shelf before velocity tapers, making tight in-and-out inventory planning essential. Planters' decision to activate both grocery (Kroger, Publix, Ahold, Albertsons/Safeway) and e-commerce simultaneously maximizes TDP and reduces the risk of early stockouts in high-demand markets.

The Sam's Club exclusive on Special Reserve 34-oz. is a deliberate channel strategy: the larger shareable format is a natural fit for the club channel's bulk-buying shopper, while keeping it e-commerce-only limits inventory risk on a limited-quantity SKU. Patrick Horbas, marketing director of the Planters brand, framed the seasonal push around premium protein positioning: "These Planters products are the go-to premium protein choice for fall." For operators managing the salty snack and nut planogram, the fall collection arrives as private label nut offerings have expanded shelf presence at several major grocery chains, making branded seasonal differentiation a meaningful traffic tool heading into Q4.

All fall 2026 Planters items are available for a limited time only. Hormel Foods, which acquired the Planters brand in 2021, reports over $12 billion in annual revenue across its broader portfolio.
