Dairy farmers create national observance for skyr category Painterland Sisters, an organic dairy brand founded by fourth-generation farmers Stephanie and Hayley Painter, has officially declared June 26, 2026, as the first-ever National Skyr Yogurt Day. The observance falls during National Dairy Month and aims to recognize skyr as a high-protein dairy category while celebrating the farmers and traditions behind it. The brand crafts its skyr in partnership with a 10th-generation Icelandic skyr maker, blending centuries-old Icelandic production methods with organic regenerative dairy from the Painters' Pennsylvania family farm and a network of family-owned organic farms. "We're proud to create a holiday that celebrates dairy in a way that honors Icelandic tradition and aligns with where consumers are headed," said Stephanie Painter, co-founder and co-CEO. "National Dairy Month is about honoring the dairy industry and the farmers who make it possible. For us, that story starts with organic regenerative dairy farming and continues through every cup of skyr we produce."
## Food truck activations across Northeast To mark the inaugural holiday, Painterland Sisters is deploying a branded food truck across three Northeast markets on June 26–27: - Philadelphia (Friday, June 26, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.): Rittenhouse Square, 210 W Rittenhouse Square
- Manhattan (Saturday, June 27, 9 a.m.–noon): East Village, 540 E 14th St Service Rd
- Brooklyn (Saturday, June 27, 1–3 p.m.): Williamsburg, 241 Bedford Ave Each stop will offer free Icelandic-style skyr samples, educational content on organic regenerative dairy farming and nutrient density, and complimentary flower bouquets for the first 100 attendees.
National reimbursement program Painterland Sisters is also extending a nationwide purchase reimbursement offer to consumers. The brand will reimburse the first 2,500 individual purchases of its 5.3-ounce single-serve skyr yogurts made on June 26 or 27 at participating retailers through the Aisle platform. Consumers can submit receipts for reimbursement via painterlandsisters.com/pages/nsyd. Skyr is naturally lactose-free, high in protein, and contains probiotics. The category has gained traction among health-conscious consumers seeking alternatives to traditional yogurt. "Skyr represents a really exciting shift in the dairy aisle," said Hayley Painter, co-founder and co-CEO. "We see it as a modern staple that connects us to the nourishing legacy of past generations, and National Skyr Yogurt Day is our way of putting a flag in the ground for that future."
Why It Matters
The skyr category is experiencing measurable growth as operators and retailers seek to diversify yogurt offerings. For dairy farmers facing margin pressure, skyr's premium positioning and protein narrative offer an alternative to commodity segments. Painterland Sisters' visibility campaign—combining experiential marketing with consumer incentives—signals how emerging dairy brands are building category awareness beyond traditional retail shelf placement.
