Murray's Cheese has taken home six medals at the 2026 American Cheese Society Awards, competing against more than 1,300 entries from cheesemakers and affineurs across North America. Double Doe claimed first place in the competition, often called the "Academy Awards of cheese." Three cheeses—Treeline, Savage, and Mini Greensward—earned their first-ever competition medals, each taking second place. Stockinghall and Carpenter's Wheel also earned medals, placing second and third respectively.
Proprietary Aging Program Sets Murray's Apart Unlike traditional cheese retailers, Murray's operates its own state-of-the-art cheese caves in Long Island City. The company's affinage team partners with American creameries and small producers to age, develop, and refine proprietary cheeses. Many of the award-winning selections are produced in limited quantities and available exclusively through Murray's. The New York City-based company operates two retail shops, a kiosk in Grand Central Terminal, and a national e-commerce business. Murray's also supplies cheeses to many of the country's acclaimed restaurants and operates within more than 1,200 Kroger stores nationwide following the company's 2017 acquisition by Kroger.
Why It Matters
For operators sourcing specialty cheeses, Murray's cave-aging program represents a differentiation opportunity—exclusive selections with provenance and awards recognition that can justify premium positioning on menus and retail displays.
