Meal-kit company Marley Spoon has named Misfits Market as its new fulfillment partner, outsourcing order assembly and logistics to the direct-to-consumer grocery platform. The transition is already underway. The partnership addresses operational challenges at Marley Spoon. According to the company, Misfits Market will provide capabilities to enhance ingredient quality and packaging while reducing transit times. Marley Spoon will retain ownership of its recipes, menus, and culinary direction. "We know the past few weeks haven't been easy for our customers, and we're incredibly grateful for their patience as we work to get back to the experience they expect from Marley Spoon," said Michael Hester, Marley Spoon's U.S. CEO. "Quality is incredibly important to us, and we're excited to work with Misfits Market to deliver a more reliable experience for our customers and ultimately even better than before." Misfits Market operates a direct-to-consumer grocery model focused on reducing food waste. The company serves nearly every ZIP code in the contiguous U.S. and has rescued more than 238 million pounds of food to date, according to its website.
Why It Matters
Meal-kit operators have faced persistent fulfillment and quality challenges.
Outsourcing logistics to an established platform with proven cold-chain and packaging expertise is a common strategy for scaled meal-kit companies seeking to stabilize customer retention and reduce operational drag. For Misfits Market, the deal represents expansion into contract fulfillment services beyond its core grocery business.
