New Roasts Target Expanding Daypart Appeal
Don Francisco's Coffee has launched two new blends—Daybreak Blend and Moonlight Roast—marking its latest effort to capture coffee drinkers across different consumption occasions. The release, which began rolling out this month, is accompanied by the brand's first major packaging redesign in years.
Daybreak Blend is positioned as a medium-dark roast made from 100% Arabica beans sourced from Central and South America and East Africa. According to the company, it delivers "vibrant fruity notes and a rich flavor profile for a bright, flavorful cup." Moonlight Roast, pitched as the darkest offering in the Family Reserve line, is an extra-dark roast with 100% Arabica beans from Central and South America, featuring "an intense smoky aroma, bold, rich flavor, and deep body."
Packaging Overhaul Signals Modern Direction
The updated packaging introduces a bold diagonal layout and refined tile pattern design. The company says the new aesthetic "builds on the brand's heritage with a more contemporary look," while a streamlined color-coding system aims to help consumers navigate roast levels and flavor profiles more easily.
"For generations, our coffee has been part of people's daily routines, and today those routines look different for everyone," said Lisette Gaviña Lopez, fourth-generation coffee roaster at Gaviña Coffee Company. "With Daybreak and Moonlight, we're offering blends that reflect that range, giving people the flexibility to choose what fits their moment, whether they're in the mood for something bright and vibrant or rich and bold. It's about delivering the quality and consistency they rely on to show up for their day."
Gaviña Lopez added: "For nearly 60 years, our family has been roasting coffee in Los Angeles with an unwavering commitment to quality. This next chapter builds on that foundation, with an updated look and new blends that reflect how people enjoy coffee today."
Multi-Format Distribution Strategy
The new blends are available through donfranciscos.com, Amazon, and select grocery and retail locations. Both are offered in ground coffee bags, whole bean, and single-serve pods compatible with Keurig brewers. Expanded retail distribution is expected to continue through spring 2026.
The company also highlighted a free recycling program through TerraCycle, allowing consumers to recycle Don Francisco's packaging and pods at no cost.
Why It Matters
For operators and retailers, the launch reflects broader category trends around daypart expansion and flavor segmentation. As coffee consumption patterns diversify—with consumption shifting across morning, afternoon, and evening occasions—premium brands are addressing consumer demand for choice. The packaging refresh signals Don Francisco's investment in shelf visibility amid competitive retail environments, while the multi-format approach (ground, whole bean, pods) underscores the continued relevance of single-serve pods in consumer kitchens alongside traditional brewing methods.
