Del Rey Avocado has unveiled a refreshed line of bagged avocado packaging designed to give retailers more flexibility in how they merchandise the category. The redesigned bags introduce two new offerings: Big Reys, featuring larger avocados suited for family meals and sharing, and lil' reys, offering smaller avocados for individual portions and snacking. The new packaging carries a colorful design intended to improve shelf visibility and communicate the convenience and versatility of bagged avocados. "As the avocado category continues to grow, especially in bagged avocados, we wanted to create a bag line that captures the energy of our brand and the different ways consumers are shopping for avocados," said Patrick Lucy of Del Rey Avocado. "Big Reys and lil' reys allow us to offer retailers more variety within our bagged avocado program while giving shoppers more options based on size and occasion." The new lines complement Del Rey's existing bagged avocado offerings, expanding the supplier's options for retailers looking to appeal to different household sizes and consumption occasions.

Why It Matters

The bagged avocado segment has grown significantly in recent years as consumers seek portion control and convenience. Retailers can now use size-based SKUs to capture multiple shopping behaviors—family purchases, single-serve snacking, and meal-prep needs—within a single supplier's portfolio, potentially improving category turns and reducing out-of-stocks.
